Local bus and passenger ferry connections at Olhão

MFO - runs Mondays to Fridays (weekdays) only except holidays
SAT - runs on Saturdays only except holidays SCH - runs on SCHOOLDAYS only
SHX - does not run on Sundays or on holidays SHO - runs on Sundays and Holidays only
SSH - runs on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays only
XXX does not run on Saturdays unless Saturday is a holiday!

Olhão does not have a 'bus station'. See below for details.

Faro - Olhão <> Moncarapacho via Quelfes

xxx - connecting bus leaves Faro approx 30 minutes earlier than Olhão time.

Olhão <> Pechão

Ten minute journey. From Olhão at 1305 (MFO), 1345 (SCH), 1700 (SCH) and 1830 (MFO)
From Pechão at 0805 (MFO), 1150 (MFO), 1315 (MFO), 1400 (SCH), 1710 (SCH) 1840 (MFO) and 1950 (MFO)

There is also a limited service MFO between Faro and Pechão; click here for times.
The 0805, 1150 and 1950 buses from Pechão are in fact through buses from Faro for what good that may be!

Olhão <> Poço Longo

PASSENGER FERRIES BETWEEN OLHÃO AND OUTLYING ISLANDS

Complicated schedules so please read carefully!  NB PASSENGER FERRIES ONLY - there are no motor vehicles or even roads on the islands.
Bicycles are not carried neither (officially) are dogs. These ferries are not just for tourists!
Ferries leave from a pier near the old fish docks; obviously on the waterfont and about ten minutes walk from bus and train stations.
Water taxis are also available, from an adjacent pier. Timetables on the internet here, only in Portuguese. Please check timetables locally before comitting yourself.

SPECIAL NOTE : GETTING ON AND OFF THESE FERRIES INVOLVES SOME STEEP AND NARROW STEPS. DISABLED PEOPLE MAY HAVE DIFFICULTIES.

Olhão <> Ilha Armona

Olhão <> Culatra <> Farol

AAA Operates Daily 15th June to 13th September
BBB Operates Daily between 1st June and 31st August
CCC Operates Daily 1st September and 30th May
DDD Operates Daily 1st July to 31st August
EEE - Runs daily during October and between 15th December and 5th January.
Otherwise runs only on Saturdays, Sundays and Holidays.

Ferries also operate between Faro (Portas do Mar), Culatra and Ilha Farol during summer - timetable and fares here.

Olhão Bus Terminal Information

Olhão does not have a bus station. Buses start and finish their journeys at a small terminal in the Rua Gen. Humberto Delgado, close to the main Avenida da Republica and about 200 metres from the railway station. There is an enquiry/ticket office there. To get there from the railway station, turn right and cross the road. Walk about 50 metres and turn left into the Rua Candido O Ventura. Walk the length of the street (about 100 metres) and when at the end, turn right and you will see the bus stops and buses a few metres ahead of you. All buses call here and make other stops in town according to route. However I did notice that the 'RENEX' bus stop for long distance services to/from Lisbon is outside the railway station and not near the other stops, so best check when booking a ticket to/from Olhão.

The bus stops are a few minutes walk along the Avenida from the old part of town, the tourist office and the ferries.

Olhão Local Bus Service Information

Olhão has two circular urban bus routes starting from the bus 'terminal' and going out to the various suburbs. Service operates about every hour on both routes from about 0715 until 1945 on weekdays (MFO) and from about 0800 to 1330 on Saturdays. There is no service on Saturday afternoons and all day on Sundays and holidays.
